Cody Garbrandt Net Worth in 2018 and Biography

Cody Garbrandt Net Worth in 2018 and Biography

Cody Garbrandt has gone from strength to strength in such a short time. From a street kid who got into fights to being MMA champion, today he has a net worth of $500,000 and had become the Bantamweight champion several times. If you look back at the last few years of his career, he has become a very rich man. In 2015 alone he earned $168,000, the year before $129,231, with a cool $96,000 in the year 2013. It is thought that he earns anything between $40,000 to $80,000 per match.

To put this kind of money into perspective, he is nowhere near the highest paid MMA fighter. In 2017 that title belonged to 29 year old Irish lightweight champion Conor McGregor; his earnings vary with estimates that range anything between $15 to $100 million!

No Love

Probably more recognisable for his extensive tattoos covering his body, Cody Ray Allen “No Love” Garbrandt is an American MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter who has, in the past five years, risen to be one of the greatest winners of his beloved sport – and all at the age of just 26!

For anybody who is a fan of the MMA scene they will have seen Cody rise from a simple young man from Ohio to an amazing champion – and an incredible inspiration!

Getting into the ring with somebody who is out to hurt you can be daunting even for professionals like him, but he throws caution to the wind and gives it everything he has, most likely attributing this to having a positive mental attitude, he has previously been quoted as saying “Self belief is the greatest power we have as humans.”

Early life

Born in 1991, he spent his early years street fighting and getting into all kinds of scrapes. The town where he was living wasn’t a great place for him and he found himself falling into a rut, where trouble was around every corner. If he stayed here he would end up in jail for sure. He had already been kicked out of school and he was clearly on a downward spiral.

His father had not been around since he was a baby after he became drunk and violent with his mother. Something had to give or his life would be a mess. This is where his uncle Bob came in, at the age of 15 he began taking Cody’s fighting seriously and put him into training with boxing and gym sessions. He would push both him and his brother Zach hard and scare the hell out of them, but it was probably the kick up the backside that they needed.

But training with his uncle would only take him so far. He needed to up his game and become more than just the guy on the street.

This is when he met an unlikely inspiration and leave him to make decisions that would definitely live with him for all the good reasons. His brother’s connections led to him meeting a young boy named Maddux Maple. This wasn’t just any little boy though. He had cancer, a battle he had been fighting since he was 5 years old.

This was a sight to be reckoned with – one a young lad who had barely begun his life, the other a fighter who had made some wrong decisions in his past. They soon hit it off and became good friends despite their ages. Cody could see that this little boy had more fight in him than anybody he had ever met and he suddenly felt massively motivated and at that moment he knew that he had to look at life in a different way. This wasn’t all about Cody any more, this was more than that.

At the same time young Maddux looked up to Cody and he now felt like he had met a role model that would understand him and help him along the way. Together they inspired each other to fight back in their own unique ways.

Fighting Back

Cody started by hosting a charity boxing match where the ticket sales were donated to Maddux to pay for his treatment and to make his life more bearable, raising $15,000 in one night. But unfortunately the little boy had taken a turn for the worst and was losing the will to carry on. He said that he didn’t want to fight it any more, no more pills, no more medication and hospitals.

Knowing that he couldn’t give up now and certainly not wanting to see him deteriorate Cody looked him in the eyes and made a pact with him that they would keep on fighting – Together. They made a deal that if he promised to never ever quit his fight to live, then Cody wouldn’t stop training until he was good enough to be the champion.

Their aim would be to beat the seemingly impossible odds! It wasn’t going to be easy, but then again something worth fighting for never will be.

But this is where motivation overtook every obstacle, as slowly but surely Cody’s name rose up the leader boards, winning fight after fight, opportunities had him heading to the UFC after a chance meeting, this in turn led him to sign an instant contract there and then! His dream was becoming a reality and in the most unlikely of places, this is where the two friends made their pact finally come true.

A kick in the teeth

Cody Garbrandt recalled recently in an interview that Hollywood star Jean Claude Van Damme visited Team Alpha Male and took part in some light training with the guys. Unfortunately they had all been out the night before and had had a few drinks! Van Damme was doing warm up kicks and sweating profusely, suddenly starting his kicks and accidentally kicking Garbrandt in the teeth! Needless to say he was not happy and left the ring. The movie star could not apologise enough!

Rising to Victory

Fighting against all odds, young Maddux took his medicine like a real man, like the strong fighter that he too had become. Never a word of complaint was heard until the very last chemo pill was consumed. His cancer had finally gone, he was free from his near-fatal illness at long last.

In the meantime Cody was wowing crowds on TV and sure enough on 3rd January 2015 at UFC 182 he went on to beat Marcus Brimage to become world champion, just yards away sat in the crowd was not only Cody’s own proud family….but also Maddux and his family.

Together in those few years they had shared a remarkable journey, today they shared the victory. With a great victory comes the chance to make new goals, Maddux’s being to walk his friend and hero into his next fight into the Octogon, which again came true when he did this as he went in for his title fight against Dominick Cruz in December of 2016.

In a nail biting performance where both gave it their best, there could only be one winner. Watched by crowds of fans screaming his name, he made history. All three judges agreeing that there was only one winner.

So on the night of 30th December 2016 he was finally presented with the champions’ belt, but unknown to everybody in the audience there was a plan to present the belt to Maddux in front of the world. When asked if he wanted a replica made to give to him, his reply was “No, I’ll keep the replica. Give the kid the real belt.”

Rise and rise

He had made his promotional debut in 2015 winning his first match against Marcus Brimage on 3rd January at UFC 182 and in just two years he went on to fight eleven further MMA matches, a back injury forcing him to temporarily retire to the sidelines until his comeback at the UFC Bantamweight Championship on 4th November 2017 which unfortunately, after a nail biting fight, he was knocked out by TJ Dillashaw in the second round, leading to his first ever MMA defeat.

Not to be deterred from his life goals, when he was interviewed about the fight later on he remarked “I’m the best in the world and I’ll be back from this.” Judging by his previous efforts, one can only agree that a big comeback is on the horizon and further triumph will be cheered.

Family time

Today Cody lives in Sacramento, California, with his wife Danielle, whom he met during his countless gym training sessions. They married in secret in July 2017 and they are now expecting the birth of a son in March 2018.

He is still hard at work today, training in Thailand making sure that one day that title will be back in his hands.
