The Most Important Things You Can Do to Make Your Show Home Shine

Many of us often wonder how a show home can look so incredibly perfect when we all know that the property is staged. And that’s the thing – even though we know very well that it’s staged or ‘pretend’, we nonetheless can’t help but be attracted to it. And what’s not to like? It has the latest and best kitchen gadgets and appliances, it features a stunning bedroom straight out of the covers of a magazine, and it showcases a bathroom where everything is neat, clean, and spotless. It’s all in the little details which make up the big picture, of course, and every little thing gets some careful attention. But what makes show homes stand out, and more importantly, what can you do to make your show home shine? Here’s what you should know.

1. Know the importance of symmetry

The first rule for having a show home is to know the importance of symmetry. With proper symmetry, you achieve balance – which is crucial. The first thing you can do to achieve symmetry is to bookend your sofas and beds with end tables, and along with this, don’t forget the matching lamps on each table. It will help you create a mirror effect which is pleasing to the eye. Another way you can create symmetry in your show home is by placing four cushions on either end of your sofa and decorating tabletops and countertops with the famous ‘group of three’ – as in three candlesticks, for instance, or three picture frames or decorative pieces.

2. Make the perfect bed

The bedroom is the star in your quest for the perfect show home. Yes, the living room, dining area, and kitchen are all equally important in their own way, but there’s something about the bedroom that ‘seals the deal’ for most home buyers. Perhaps it’s the thought that this could be their bedroom, and relaxing in a bedroom is foremost on everyone’s mind, but it’s also a place where people could be themselves at the end of the day. That said – make the perfect bed. The bed and everything surrounding it must be immaculate, and your bed should be a showcase all on its own.

The bed is, after all, the bedroom’s centrepiece, so on top of making sure that everything is neat and eye-catching, make sure the duvet is tucked in well and that it is smooth and tidy, as a showhome designer like Blocc.co.uk knows all too well. Once this is done, throw in that cushion or two, and investing in a beautiful throw can work wonders. Make the colours complement each other, and your buyers wouldn’t be able to resist it.

3. Keep it neutral

When all is said and done, you want a show home that is the right fit for everyone – in other words, you want it to appeal to the majority and not just a chosen few. That’s why it’s best to keep the colours neutral. Keeping the colours neutral will make it easier for potential buyers to imagine themselves living there, and they can customise it according to what they wish. But you don’t have to stick to beige or white – you can choose more interesting shades like lilac, teal, taupe, or medium grey, whilst pale yellow is also a good choice.
