What to Look for When Choosing a Pocket Knife

on

Consideration #1

Make a decision whether a single blade, a multi-blade, or a multi-tool is right for you. One blade is all you’ll need to open a box or peel an apple if you’re simply using your knife for those tasks. Multi-blade pocket knives are my recommendation if you’re looking for a knife that has a little more versatility. Lastly, a multi-tool is probably going to be the best option if you want to be able to use it in a variety of situations.

Consideration #2

What is your preference regarding locking blades? In addition to being safer to use, locking knives prevent the blade from folding in on your hand while you are using them. You are probably better off going with a single blade knife if you want this safety feature, since most multi-blade knives and tools do not have locking mechanisms.

Consideration #3

What is the best pocket knife to buy? A brand-name or an off-brand? Keep to the most well-known name brands like damascus kitchen knife, Case and Sons Cutlery, Spyderco, Buck Knives, Gerber Gear, Benchmade, and many others that are available today. Several well-known knife manufacturers have built their reputations on crafting high-quality pocket knives and have great customer support. The benefit of sticking with these well-established brands is that you will find lots of reviews online about their different knives, which will help you to gain a better understanding of which knives are good, which are bad, and which ones will stand the test of time.

Consideration #4

What are the best types of blade materials? It’s always a hot topic on the discussion boards, but here are some guidelines to help you decide what’s best for you. Since stainless steel is soft, the blade remains sharp for a reasonable amount of time but is easy to sharpen. A carbon steel blade will keep its edge for longer than a stainless steel blade, but will be harder to sharpen when it is time to do so. In addition to stainless steel, damascus is a popular choice with collectors of knives and those seeking beauty in their work. Samurai swords were made of Damascus steel, steel that is patterned and has beautiful patterns. A common property of Damascus is its hardness, which allows it to hold an edge, but soft enough to be sharpened.

Consideration #5

When buying a pocket knife, what should you expect to pay? Though there are no hard and fast rules that you need to follow, remember that you get what you pay for. Having said that, a decent pocket knife can usually be found for $30 to $60. As well as cheaper blades, there are expensive blades that sometimes have better knives, sometimes not, and even more expensive blades that are likely to be lower quality as well.

Due to the large selection of raindrop damascus knife available today, finding the best one can be challenging. Read as many reviews as possible and do thorough research before selecting a pocket knife. There is no single best pocket knife for everybody; it depends on your preferences and what you plan to use the knife for.
