Mapped was a research project which was created to discover the city which has the most eco-friendly individuals, businesses and councils in the country. If you want to become a green citizen, simply continue reading to learn a few eco-friendly lifestyle habits which you may find useful.

Decrease your reliance on fossil fuels:

One of the best ways to become a green citizen is to decrease your reliance on fossil fuels. For example, you may want to invest in having solar panels built onto the roof of your home or you may want to buy a fuel cell boiler or a heat pump. All of which are also cheaper to run in the long run than to rely on traditional fossil fuels.

Ensure that your shopping habits are sustainable:

Another way that you can do your part to save the Earth is ensure that your shopping habits are sustainable. For example, instead of purchasing all of your items brand new, you may want to purchase items from your local thrift store. For example, you can buy great quality clothing, furniture and sports equipment for a thrift store. If you can’t find the items that you’re looking for at your nearest thrift store, you may want to purchase preloved items online instead.

Decrease your consumption of meat based products:

If you were to switch to a plant based diet you would significantly decrease your personal carbon footprint. However, you don’t have to give up meat altogether in order to become a green citizen. Even if you give up meat for two meals a day or a day per week, you’ll still decrease your carbon footprint.

Leave your car at home more often:

For example, instead of using your car to drive to and from work each day you may want to walk or cycle to work, depending of course on the proximity of your home to your workplace. Alternatively, if you live too far away from your work to walk or cycle to work, you may want to start up a cool pool with your colleagues to travel to work together. You may even be interested in catching public transportation such as a train or bus, to work.

Swap out your car for an electric model:

If you love the convenience of having your own car and still own a traditional car, it may be the right time to sell your car in order to purchase a new, electric model. Which is a lot more eco-friendly and will be a lot cheaper to run, in the long run.

Become an eco-activist:

Another way to be an eco-citizen is to become an eco-activist by joining climate change protests, petitioning to local companies and educating your friends, family members and colleagues about living greener lives.

In conclusion, if you want to become a greener citizen and don’t know how to start making significant changes to your life, it’s well worth starting off by implementing some of the changes which are listed above.
