Debt Relief Tips to Help You Become Debt Free

If you have found yourself in a situation where you have debt which you find that you can no longer control then it can feel as if you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. There is however a way out and to help you find that way out we have some debt relief tips which may be able to help. It can seem that there is no way out but you will find your way out of this problem, the key is following some very simple steps.

Facing Up

The first and the most important thing that you have to do is to face up to exactly what you owe, who you owe and what the status of your debt is. Something which many in debt will do is to bury their head in the sand as if they didn’t actually owe any money and of course this is the worst thing that you could possibly do.

Totting Up

The next thing which you have to do is to work out what your exact financial situation is, be it good or bad. What you should be looking to do here is to complete a simple balance sheet of ins and outs, work out how much you are paid and what bills you absolutely have to pay each month, work out a very conservative amount for your shopping and take a small amount into consideration for leisure. Once you have done this you will have a figure that you are left with, and this is what you are going to be able to dedicate towards your debts.

Making The Call

Next up it is time to call the company or bank which has loaned you the money, if all of your debts are to the same place. These lending organizations have a responsibility to you and that is why they will have to offer you some kind of solution if you are in a situation whereby you can no longer afford to repay the debt. Speak openly and honestly with them about your situation and let them know exactly how much you are actually able to afford to pay. If they are not able to offer you a solution then they may put you in touch with a charity that specifically deals with such a situation. If you owe money to multiple sources then the best bet is to seek out a charity which can help you deal with this, and then speak to each of the lenders to let them know what is happening.

Discipline

Once you have made deals with the lenders in terms of what you will be paying back, it is important that you continue with the plan that they have set forward and that you are honest about anything which changes in terms of your income. This will be your last chance to really get that debt paid down without having any kind of court judgement against you. This will also give you the peace of mind which you need to sleep at night.
