Stop Procrastinating and Take the Next Step in These Critical Areas

Published

on

A historic writer once said the following: “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” From that, one could easily get the impression that the writer had procrastinators in view. Those are the ones who say they will do this thing or that tomorrow, or next week, or next year. There are only so many tomorrows. None of us know what is just around the corner. Or, as another great sage once said, “Life is what happens while we are making other plans.”

It is hard to break the cycle of procrastination because to stop procrastinating requires you to take certain steps that a procrastinator will hold off on taking. You have to recognize that your procrastination is a problem that is costing you opportunities. You simply don’t stand a chance at success in life if you allow your life to waft away like an ephemeral mist. Your life is more than that. And while it is as limited as smoke, it doesn’t have to be as meaningless. No one can stop procrastinating all at once in every aspect of their lives. But by taking fast action in the following areas of your life, you exponentially increase your chances of success.

A Better Job

Right now, a better job awaits. You just have to go get it. Stop what you are doing right now and go check out the latest offerings on the Forum jobs site. If you already have the skills, the only thing holding you back is a decision to act. When was the last time you updated your resume? Have you been putting that off? Do you even have a resume? Let’s start with the basics.

Write the kind of resume that is appropriate for your field. If you are into SEO work, learn how to write an SEO resume that will get you noticed. A little-known fact is that not all resumes are the same. Some types of resumes should be about one page. This is especially true for the types of jobs that require a CV. Think of a CV as an extended and much more detailed resume. The resume gets you on the shortlist. The CV gets you the interview, and perhaps the job as well. However, salespeople tend to float around a lot. That resume is expected to be two or more pages. So brush up on the latest resume info and get at least one application in today.

A More Meaningful Relationship

It is time to ask her already. She is not going to wait forever. No one wants to be in the friend zone forever. You have been dating for several months. At this point, you have settled into a comfortable routine and are just afraid to rock the boat. But the fact is the boat is going to be rocked whether or not you are the one to do it.

The question might not be about marriage. It might just be about clarifying the type of relationship you have and declaring the type of relationship you are looking for. If the two of you are not in alignment with the type of relationship you want, procrastination is not going to make the situation better. You are better off ending a relationship that is going nowhere than to wait for the situation to get more awkward. If you love the way your relationship is right now, you still need to make a move and clarify your relational intent. Do it before someone else does.

A Completed Education

It is not about money. Student loans are available along with grants. It is not about time. You have the same number of hours in a day as every other busy person who completed their education as a working adult. It is about fear and apathy. And they are holding you back. You are afraid of making such a big commitment. And you have convinced yourself that the status quo is good enough. The thing you can do right now is to pick an online school and start an application. You might not finish it today. But you can get started right now. Even baby steps are still steps in the right direction.

Ending procrastination is a decision. Get your life back on track by starting a new entry in your resume, clarifying the nature and future of your relationships, and starting an entrance application for completing your education.
