Did you know that as of the writing of this post recreational marijuana is legal in 18 states? With the cannabis plant becoming more accepted, you might have been hearing the words CBD and CBN. While CBD is better known, CBN is slowly becoming more popular.

We put together this short guide to break down what CBN is and what CBN distillate is. Keep reading to learn everything there is to know about CBN.

What Is CBN?

Before we answer the question “what is CBN Distillate?” it is important to understand what CBN is. Cannabinol (CBN) is one of the non-psychoactive cannabinoids that is found in the cannabis plant. The CBN is produced by the marijuana plant as it ages.

The more the flowers are exposed to air and heat, the THC it naturally produces converts into CBN. The older the plant the more CBN it creates.

What Is CBN Distillate?

CBN distillate has a minimum of 70% CBN. This is made through chromatography which is a process that separates the cannabinoids that are found in the plant. CBN distillate comes in liquid form, making it perfect for cannabis products that are administered orally or topically.

CBN distillate has a lower concentration of CBN and of CBN isolate but it still retains the vitamins, terpenes, waxes, and antioxidants in the cannabis plant.

Effects and Benefits

Taking CBN distillate might have mild psychoactive effects. For users that do not mind the mild feeling of being “high” CBN distillate might be ideal. In some cases, CBN might stimulate a person’s appetite as well.

One known benefit of CBN distillate is that it helps with sleep. For those that suffer from insomnia, they can benefit from CBN distillate. Also, people that suffer from ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) might be able to delay the onset of the condition.

Keep in mind that studies are still being done for CBN and its benefits are not as well known as its better known “cousin” CBD.

Antibacterial Infection

There was a study done in 2008, that showed that CBN might have some antibacterial potential. They tested it on strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria. After the study, researchers found that CBN was a strong antibacterial agent against the MRSA bacteria.

Further research is being done to see if CBN distillate can be used to fight off bacterial infections that current prescription antibiotics do not have the power to heal.
