Learn the best habits to accept your body as it is

Published

Have you ever found yourself looking at the mirror thinking how you hate your body? Feeling dispirited, wishing your body looked different. Let me assure you, you are not the only one! Studies show 85% of the women living in America have felt in discomfort with their bodies. The beauty standards society imposes nowadays it’s really pushing women to the edge; they would do anything to look as good as the latest trend indicates.

The time has come for you to take a step up, to stop trying out all the beauty tricks to look slimmer, younger, and prettier and start loving your body as it is.

Clearly, this is no easy task. To go from hating your body to embrace it with all its imperfections requires hard work, much effort and time. But don´t get anxious, just take a step at a time. Here will guide you with some of the best habits you need to acquire.

First steps

Once you realize you want to change your relationship with your body, you have done 50% of the work. To acknowledge that you want to change the way you feel about your body it’s essential and the biggest step of all.

Now, let’s keep moving forward and address other solid habits that will get you in the right direction to start a positive relationship with your body.

To learn to love your body you need to get rid of the idea that looking a certain way will make people like you better, love you more or even make you the most happy. There are many big stars with ideal bodies that have been cheated on, or have had to fight with depression, drugs or eating disorders; that shows beauty does not guarantee love or happiness at all.

Stop trying to fit into a system that makes you hate your body, no matter how hard it gets to go against the size discrimination, adopt a new philosophy that allows you to recognize hoy valuable you are.

Don’t be mean to your body, stop thinking negative things when you look in the mirror. Begin your day with some positive thinking when looking at the mirror in the morning, concentrate on the things you like about it; your smile, maybe your eyes, and tell yourself how lovely they are.

It’s important for you to stop comparing your body to other peoples, to stop judging other people based on their body aspect. Looks are not a valid measure of what a person’s worth. Everyone should be loved and accepted whatever their body shape is. Don’t let the way you look be more important than the way you feel. You should (and you can) feel great every moment of your life with the body you have. Your body is your way to move in this life, the means to do the things you love most; don´t let beauty standards overshadow its miraculous purpose.

Expanding fashion to incorporate large sizes

The good news is that the fashion industry is starting to incorporate (at a very slow rate) large sizes. Of course, it is true that these sizes are the minority, but at least it is a start!

You may not be aware, but there are several brands selling large sizes of all kinds of garment. From underwear to lingerie, large sizes are slowly stepping in, and maybe, just maybe this could be the beginning of a new way of seeing things in our society. For example, plus size leggings are practically a trend nowadays, most women love them for their comfort and versatility. Even so, women are starting to wear large sizes regardless of whether it fulfills beauty standards; and that is a giant step towards breaking imposed standards.

In my humble opinion, this is something to celebrate, for we may be experiencing the beginning of a greater society. Brands are, for the first time, considering that not everyone has the same type of body, the same shape or style, therefore, they are starting to publicly acknowledge that there is no such thing as perfect body proportions. So let us toast for plus size underwear, plus size leggings, plus size everything, for it is announcing (hopefully) a new era!
